American Bike Tours

~All the adventure with none of the responsibilities!©~

Motorcycle touring in beautiful California expressly for women who want
to experience a day on a Harley®, but don't own one, don't know someone who owns
one, and don't want to learn to ride one to do it.

(If you're looking to rent a bike to ride yourself, go to our sister site, MotorbikeUSA.com.)

Motor

Welcome to American Bike Tours. We provide one service and one service only: we hire out a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle and a driver to women who want to take a day ride on a Harley® but don't ride themselves. We offer this service to women only because we didn't think there were too many men out there who would want to rent a biker for a day tour, but there are plenty of women who would love to ride for a day while on vacation but don't have any opportunities to do so.

Whether you are going to be visiting Northern California as a tourist, or live here and simply don't know anyone who will take you for a ride, we provide a safe, fun, affordable way for you to scratch the Harley® itch and get out on the incredible roads here in California.

The only way to really experience a place as beautiful as Northern California while driving is from the seat of a motorcycle, and the motorcycle that provides the ultimate biking experience is the Harley-Davidson
®.

When you book a tour at American Bike Tours, we try to reduce your planning duties to a minimum. We show up at your home or hotel fueled up and ready to go.
An itinerary encompassing food and rest stops, sightseeing side trips and any requested special interest stops is already taken care of.
We will make all the plans, or include whatever particular likes or dislikes you  may find important to custom fit your tour to you.

Day tours consist of approximately six hours on the road, with longer or shorter tours available if preferred. We supply a D.O.T. approved helmet, sized according to measurements you provide. The only thing you'll need to consider is what to wear, depending on the local weather at the time of your ride. Please refer to the "Need To Know" section for a breakdown on the suggested attire.

Having a fun ride depends on a lot of variables, not the least of which is a mechanically sound motorcycle. John Harper, owner and main rider at American Bike Tours, has been a  Harley-Davidson® technician at a Harley-Davidson® dealership in Marin County, California for the last 5 1/2 years. His technical skills will assure that your ride is uninterrupted in case of minor mechanical failures.

Trained in advanced First Aid and CPR as well, John is not only an accomplished rider and mechanic, but a capable guardian of your safety.

There is a quiet elegance to California that has stood the test of time. From the days of the gold miners through today, the awesome beauty, rugged landscape and incredible vistas give California a natural wonder found in few other places.  The adventure you will experience on an American Bike Tour will stay with you long after you return to the grind of everyday life. If you've been wondering what it's like to chug down the highway with the wind in your hair and the smell of the woods or the ocean overtaking you, contact us today and start planning your trip!

  • Check out our "Need To Know" page for information regarding pick-ups, drop-offs, clothing needs and the expenses you can expect to incur on your tour.
  • The "Details, details..." page has all the information we need from you to assure your safety by providing the right size helmet, suspension settings for comfortable ride, and any other special requests you may have such as special dietary needs, likes or dislikes that we'll need to factor in when planning meal stops.
  • To ask any questions (and believe us, there are no dumb questions when it comes to booking a tour with us) just visit the "Contact Us" page. We're here to make your experience enjoyable and carefree, so feel free to ask any questions you may have and we'll be more than happy to try to answer them as completely and simply as possible.

John Harper, owner of American Bike Tours, was born and raised in Marin County, the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area and gateway to some of the most beautiful motorcycling country in the world. His knowledge of the area, sights, road conditions and must-see local destinations will help you make your day with American Bike Tours unforgettable.

-Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide®-
Dyna
  • You'll be riding on a late model Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide® motorcycle. One of the workhorses of the Harley® line-up, this bike provides a comfortable, sporty ride and enough horsepower to satisfy even the most daring passenger.
The Dyna Super Glide has been called the Harley equivalent of the Corvette!
There are other models available upon request.

  • If you are from the San Francisco Bay Area, or know the area well and have your own ideas of where you want to go and what you want to see, we're more than happy to accommodate your wishes. Cycling is about having fun! Our goal is to provide you with a safe, well planned day of riding so that you can experience the wonders that California has to offer in a way that best suits YOU.

American Bike Tours began as a way to fill a need that was sorely overlooked in the past:
while the Harley® demographic has changed dramatically in recent years, and there are more women than ever riding their own bikes, there are still those who would love to ride, but for whatever reason, would prefer not to drive.

We call it "Rent-A-Biker"!

This service is provided with a sense of obligation to the guest that promises competence, courtesy and a friendly, safe, no-nonsense attitude.

Our hope is that all our guests will come away from their day with us with a newfound love of motorcycling, and a new respect for the Harley-Davidson® owner and experience.
